Hi everyone,

I'm relatively new to coaching hockey (this will be my 3rd year), and I'm helping out with a Bantam B team this year. We have been working on a basic 2-1-2 forecheck, but it fails when the 2nd man isn't getting into position fast enough.

We have been stressing the importance of puck support, but it doesn't seem to be sinking in. What are some drills or teaching methods that might help the players understand better?

I've been reading some of the posts about using a 2-2-1, and I love the idea of it, but I'm a little concerned about trying it, at least until we can get everyone forechecking aggressively in a simple 2-1-2.

Thanks in advance for your help.

TeeW,

I simply use games where they can only have the puck for one second, or pass to the closest teammate, or at least one pass in each zone. Also games with Jokers who must be passed too when you regain the puck and they can only pass or shoot.
