The Delaware Valley Collegiate Hockey Conference has an intriguing and exciting way to grow the game ~ a Developmental Division for Women Beginners. There will be 8 universities entering teams, we are covering a geographic area from Washington DC to New York. While it is an idea whose time has come it has also occurred to me that I really need to brush up on some basics. When you coach a Men's Team, the players come with certain abilities, a successful background and a life long familiarity with how it all works. Our first year Women's team at Rowan U will have none of the above. Frankly, I have never worked with Adult Beginners. Frankly, I need help. Please feel free to offer your suggestions, material that will be helpful, videos, books, etc. I truly appreciate any and all input. Many thanks.

Pops, great to hear from you again. The beginners league for women is a fantastic idea to promote the game.

Our first coaching manual is designed to introduce coaches to the main concepts of the game, how to efficiently organize the ice for drills and games and has 3 beginning levels starting with non-skaters. We have activities to teach the skills and how to play the game.

These are links to the information.

Videos for level 2

If you go through the levels the players will not only get the basic skills but also learn how to support the puck, have good habits and defend.
