We are having the skating and hockey camp in Jasper July 21-26.

A Figure Skating Camp is happening at the same time as Gaston puts on figure skates (he was the feature skater for Ice Capades and Holiday on Ice and travelled the world for 5 years doing skating shows). The cost is the same.

Instructors are professional coaches.

Skating Coach is Gaston Schaeffer - former Olympic skating coach with Doctorate in Body Mechanics.

Hockey Skills Coach is Tom Molloy - coach with experience coaching professional, university both male and female, all levels of youth hockey with three degrees in education. I really focus on puck handling skills every session and we spend one session on passing and one on shooting. All of the skills are used in the games we play which take up about 30 minutes of each ice time.

Cost is:

$375 for the on ice program.

$500 for the on ice program and two meals.

$800 for the on ice program, three meals and accomodation in the on-site dorm.

Week Schedule:

Sunday July 21 - Registration

Monday - 2 power skating, one hockey, one off-ice conditioning.

Tuesday - 2 hockey, one skating, one off-ice.

Wednesday - Optional white water rafting or skating session in the morning and one hockey, one power skating in the afternoon.

Thursday - 2 hockey, one skating, one off-ice.

Friday - one skating and one hockey game.

Optional - small group advance skating session with Gaston that focuses on individual technique. This is and extra cost of $100.

So they get 6-7 one hour power skating and 7 hockey sessions and 4 off-ice. The advanced skating group gets another 5 power skating sessions.

Information about Jasper: http://www.pc.gc.ca/eng/pn-np/ab/jasper/index.aspx

Most of the players go swimming after supper in the pool that is attached to the rink. Some stay at the dorm, others camp or stay in cabins, B and B's or hotels. Shirley makes such great meals that many eat at the rink even though they don't stay there. We only have one group and it is usually 25-30 players of all ages, both girls and boys. It is a very low key and friendly camp with the older kid's helping the younger ones. Some of the older players have moved on to major junior, jr A etc.

Some video examples of the skating sessions:

Hockey session using drills and games: This video is from a camp I did in the Czech Republic because I took a video there and haven't done that while on the ice in Jasper but the philosophy is the same. Skill technique and skill drills and then they are put into game situations. http://www.hockeycoachingabcs.com/mediagallery/video.php?n=20100821115710425

Bike Ride around the Golf Course: the course is ranked as one of the top ones in the country. You can bike and hike all over the park. This is me with my son, daughter and son in law. They biked and hiked all over during the day. Jim helped me on the ice and Gaston's son helped him with the power skating. http://www.hockeycoachingabcs.com/mediagallery/media.php?f=0&sort=0&s=20120730101058221

I will attach last years brochure. I estimated a little higher cost because I know the ice cost has gone up. I will replace this file with the 2013 brochure when Gaston finishes it.

I have done camps all over the world and this is the ABSOLUTE BEST camp for skating technique and puck handling. If you can skate and handle the puck you have the tools needed to be a player. The cost is very low compared to other camps. A hockey school in Calgary costs $600-1000 for a week and that is just for the day program with no food or accomodation and they usually have junior or college players running the on-ice sessions.
