1. Re: Teaching support in all zones
I love that you mentioned the Quick Transition Game. On the days we don't run the Attack Defend Rest, we run the 2 on 2 quick transition game. I just call out the drill name and the players yell " Pucks on the Blue Line" Thanks Tom

6. Re: Arm Action in Hockey Skating-Is It Being Taught Incorrectly?
Quote by: TomM Peter, thanks for posting this. I was hoping someone else would comment but I agree with the author in the article you posted. The stride is sideways and because 'for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction', the arm swing must be sideways to maximize ...

12. Re: Half-Ice Practice Ideas + Coaching Articles
If there was a rule that you could only use one drill, that drill would be the 3 on 3 Attack - Defend - Rest (Perry Pearn) This game allows the coach to focus on the attack or defending deep in the zone. You can play ...

13. Re: Half-Ice Practice Ideas + Coaching Articles
I did this drill for the first time this weekend, and players loved it. I called it Circle Keepaway. I had 4 players stickhandling inside the faceoff circle, they protect their puck while they try to force the other players puck outside the circle. We had ...

14. Re: Do I need Insurance when running a hockey program?
Quote by: Ice Sage Hi peter - In my view, it would be silly not to have insurance, given the risks in this game and increased awareness of liability, especially for head injuries. Astute parents will be demanding this and it needs to be ...

16. Re: Half-Ice Practice Ideas + Coaching Articles
Most of our practices are half ice, and I like to keep as many kids as possible moving, so for stick handling drills I setup two sections. One section works on dekes, the other puck control.

17. Re: ABC time for Hockey USA and Hockey Canada
I’m not sure what or if this game has a name, but we call it the Net Front Game, and it’s competitive. We use this drill as a station drill with 6 to 8 players. You have the players in teams of two, 6 pucks setup behind the ...

18. Re: ABC time for Hockey USA and Hockey Canada
4 on 2 Keepaway I like this drill because you have 6 active players at a time in one station. It very good drill to teach the players about blocking the lanes with their sticks, and always facing the puck.

19. Re: ABC time for Hockey USA and Hockey Canada
Not sure where I found this drill, it may have been right here. This is a fun game, and has lots to offer on the coaching side. Move the net to the side boards, 3 forwards must stay on the outside of the circle, and one or two ...

21. Re: Improving Practice - Ideas Anyone?
When you coach, especially in the U6 –U 14 age groups, you need to understand that some of the best practices look a little unorganized from the stands. I can run some of the best looking practices, players skating hard, cutting through the neutral zone, ...
