Have between 2 and 4 groups depending on the number of players. A group of 4 is the smallest.

1. First player in each line skate towards the other line and pass to the far line.
2. Exchange pucks and pass to opposite line.
3. Skate to red line tight left turn and pass to original line.
4. Repeat but make a tight right turn.
5. Carry toward other player and head and shoulder fakes with legs wide then pass.
6. Alternate knee touches and pass to far line.
7. Carry the puck and do a lateral push to face the other player and exchange pucks.
8. Exchange pucks twice then pass to the far end.

*Other passes like backhands, saucer or moves like in the feet, toe drag can be added.

T - Game Transitions

Key Points:

Two even teams will be on offense about 35% of the time and on defense 35% of the time and ready to attack or defend in loose puck situations which are about 30% of a game. The team that wins the most loose puck battles spends more time on offense and usually wins the game and players need to be prepared to go on either offense or defense in loose puck situations.
Players need good offensive habits like facing the puck, stick on the ice, give a target, protect the puck, face the play, carry the puck in the triple threat position, get open. On defense always play from the defensive side, stick on the puck, stick in the lanes, mark your man, head on a swivel, tight gaps, good angles, stay in the shooting lane, etc..

Description:

Three Game Situations:

0 - Loose Puck (about 30%of the time.
1 - Team on offense (about 35% of the time)
2 - Team on defense (about 35% of the time)

Four Game Playing Roles

Offense

Role 1 - the player with the puck.
Role 2 - the players supporting the puck carrier.

Defense:
Role 3 - Closest defender checking the puck carrier using pressure or contain skills.
Role 4 - Other defenders playing man to man or zone.

This video was prepared by Kai Katajalehto a Finnish coach in the Vaasa organization.

The video clips show USA and Canada both playing Russia at the IIHF World Championships. Kai has edited the video so in the top corner a circle appears in each of the 3 situations. Green Can. USA on offense, Red on defense, Yellow a loose puck situation.

It is amazing to watch how the game constantly bounces from one situation to another. (I have added English sub titles.)

http://www.hockeycoachingabcs.com/mediagallery/media.php?f=0&sort=0&s=20151006171608668

This is a video Kai did a few years ago with Detroit and Pittsburg that uses the same symbols.

C2-C6 - 2-1-Point Shot – Pro

Key Points:

Defender cut the ice in half and don’t allow the puck to cross the mid-line. If the defender slides he must be outside the posts and his skates sideway so the puck can’t get under the toes. D fake going to the puck carrier early then drop back into the middle. If they screen in a high and low stagger then D1 focus on not allowing the higher F to tip the shot. Many attackers will panic and either shoot from far out or pass right to you.
Attack with speed and make the first pass near the blue line and read the D. Crash the net for a rebound. Layer on point shot, one screen and one tip from the hash marks.

Description:

1. Line-up D along boards in middle and F in corners.
2. F1-F2 attack 2-1 vs. D1.
3. After the rush D2 follow and take a shot from the point.
4. F1-F2 screen and tip vs. D1.
5. F3-F4 attack vs. D2 after the point shot.
6. D3 follow and shoot then defend vs. F5-F6.

T2 - Diamond and Spread PP Below Goal Line - Russian U20

Key Points:

Start with the overload and rotate into the low spread and diamond.

Description:

1. Set up 5-4 at one end.
2. Start with an overload at the hash mark.
3. Pass to the low player who sets up the diamond from behind the net.
4. Set up one timer shots and back door plays from behind the net.
5. Practice the 2-1-2 spread with one player on each side below the goal line.
6. Keep the puck moving from low to high and use the player in the middle to pass or shoot.
7. Rotate between one and two players below the goal line.

There are only glimpses of the Russians setting up below the goal line in this clip but in an ex-game vs. Canada U20 they used the low Diamond and Spread and got a goal on a one timer shot from the dot with a pass from below the line. The benefit of setting up below the goal line is that it is very hard for the defenders to see both the puck and the player they are covering who can slide into seams for a shot.
