This is a 32' video of a pro practice. Team play review, some passing and shooting drills, low 3-3, a 1-0, 2-1, 4-2 drill. D and F individual skills and a few minutes where I left the camera on and you can see the floor.

https://youtu.be/q1vdagvtkAQ

I will write up each drill and post them in the next while.

DT100 - Continuous 2-1 - D Join Attack – Pro

Key Points:

One puck game. If the puck is dumped out regroup and attack again. This transition game can be played like a continuous drill with the new players giving passive support. Another way is to play as a game and the new forwards help defend deep in the zone and the new offensive defenseman is part of the attack. So it is just an efficient was of changing lines on the go. This is the most game like practice drill/game a coach can use. Basically you can create any numerical situation or isolate team skills like the breakout and forecheck by making the attacking team dump the puck in. This video has the new players giving passive support. Examples of active and passive support full ice.

DT100 - Continuous 2-1 and 2-2 - Detroit
https://youtu.be/eUVJXyP_cSA

DT100 Continuous 2-2 Passive Support - Prospects
https://youtu.be/sk4z4ul7rao

Description:

1. Attack 2-1 and two forwards give support to the D and one D follow to support the offense.
2. Defending team break out 2-1 and the D join to make it a 3-1.
3. Two defending F and one attacking D follow the play into the zone.
4. Make a 2-2 by two F and two D joining the play and one D be part of the rush.
5. This flow can be done from 1-1 which would make a 2-1 on the rush.
6. With a D joining a 2-1 is a 3-1 rush, 2-2 is a 3-2 rush.

DT200 - 2-2 Backchecking Game - College F- C U18 M-F

Key Points:

Attack and defend quickly. Attackers should get a shot before the backtrackers catch them. Defenders must identify who to cover and box them out tying up their sticks so they don’t score on a rebound. Attackers must crash the net for a rebound and use crosses and picks to create space if they gain the loose puck. Stress that the defenders cannot allow them to score on a second shot.

Description:
1. R1-R2 attack vs. B1-B2 while R3-R4 wait to attack from their offensive side.
2. On a goal, frozen puck or turnover pass the puck to R3-R4 who attack the Red goal.
3. B1-B2 backtrack hard and defend vs. R3-R4.
4. R3-R4 support from across the mid-line.

*Add rules like; goals must be on one touch shots or on give and goes. You can vary the numbers. It is also a great full ice game to work on quick attack and defenders denying the second shot.

* This is also a great full ice game where you can vary the number of new supporting players from 1 to 3.

E1 - Shootouts and Contests Manual - 2019

A great way to end practice and work on scoring under pressure is to have a shootout or contest where players or groups compete and the score is kept.

DT - ABC Coded Transition Games Manual - 2019

Transition games are the ultimate practice activity to practice game situations and skills. Every situation can be put into a game that uses one puck and there is constant transition between offense, defense and loose puck situations. Modified skill rules can be added. These are REAL Games where the players change on the fly and practice any situation that happens in hockey.

Erkka Westerlund who has been a leader in youth development and a multiple Finland Olympic coach is a great promoter of transition games.

Watch these video clips of a world championship game and an NHL game. At the top right a red, green or yellow dot appears when the teams transition between defense, offense or loose puck situations. Video prepared by Finnish coach Kai Katajalehto.
