Rookie Coach, I agree with most of what you say. If the puck carrier goes high with the puck the D still has to stay with him. The wing can't leave his man. When the other D joins in the 3 on 3 coverage on one side the weak side forward has net front coverage and should drop back to the hash marks but still goes to the point if the puck goes there.

It is basically 3 on 3 man to man coverage if they overload 3F on the puck side.
