Saturday game vs Raiders we played well. Won 4-1 with 3 even strength and 1 shorthanded goal. Out shot them 32-20 and that reflects how the game went. They got their goal late in third on a wrap around.
Sunday we played Calgary White. Totally dominated the first period leading 2-0 with 3:35 left before they got a shot on net. We continued to dominate but were really sloppy in our end making some blind passes and giving up breakaways on our power play. Dominated the shots but they came back and got the lead 3-4 late in the third, We pulled the goalie and used the 3-3 Torpedo 6-5 and tied it 4-4, then won on a 4-3 power play in the third. We got 2 on the PP and gave up a short handed goal. Shots 55-21.
Need to manage the puck a lot better but continue to forecheck hard and go to the net. Their goalie made about a dozen 10 bell saves.
Our last game before Christmas break and first half of the season is for first plaice overall vs Calgary Red. We are 13-2-1 now with 39 pts. 65 GF and 36 GA One D got a serious injury at practice and our captain got tackled on a breakaway and may miss the Saturday game.
Saturday we played for first overall in both our division and the 15 team league. Got outchanced in the first but came out 1-1. Second was evenly played and we got another but they scored on a scramble and two long shots. Third we outshot 12-3 and out chanced them but their goalie was really solid and we both scored one so a 3-5 result.
Now we don't play again until Jan. 3 and all other teams play next weekend. We have some injuries and been going hard since last week of August, so the break will be good.
Our terrific manager April applied and did all the work bidding to host the Provincials. We were chosen and are in for sure to the five team tournament. We know our team now and what we need to work on so everyone can contribute at the end of the season.
We have the highest ranked PP and PK and 4 of the top 10 scorers in the league as of today. We have a very young team and 4 of our 6 D are first year, 6 of our 12 forwards as well. One of our top pair D got injured in practice two weeks ago and may need season ending surgery. We have moved a first year forward back to D where she always played before this year.
All the teams get better in the second half. We are 13-3-1 now but have given up too many goals our last two games after averaging 2 GA. We average 4 GF a game and if we can keep that up and get back to defending like before we will be ok.
