My AC’s planned the practice and are running it. Our executive is meeting with the parents to create a ‘Mission Statement’ that I am mandated to attend. Plan looks good. My three female AC’s on ice. Jim is at a seminar in Edmonton for Crown Procecutors, a position he took on during the summer.
I attached video clips of the drills with our team doing the them earlier in the season in comments.

Did drills and games players knew except for the Gambling Shootout. Added rule, one pass each zone to the Power Play Game. Stressed making plays more quickly and reviewed how to play 1-1, 2-1, 2-2, 3-2 taking 30' to go over principles of attack and defend at the start of each sequence. We are over 40% with our PP and over 90% on PK it is the difference in close games. 11-2-1 in league play so far. We have two games this weekend.Attachments

Saturday game vs Raiders we played well. Won 4-1 with 3 even strength and 1 shorthanded goal. Out shot them 32-20 and that reflects how the game went. They got their goal late in third on a wrap around.Sunday we played Calgary White. Totally dominated the first period leading 2-0 with 3:35 left before they got a shot on net. We continued to dominate but were really sloppy in our end making some blind passes and giving up breakaways on our power play. Dominated the shots but they came back and got the lead 3-4 late in the third, We pulled the goalie and used the 3-3 Torpedo 6-5 and tied it 4-4, then won on a 4-3 power play in the third. We got 2 on the PP and gave up a short handed goal. Shots 55-21.
Need to manage the puck a lot better but continue to forecheck hard and go to the net. Their goalie made about a dozen 10 bell saves.
Our last game before Christmas break and first half of the season is for first plaice overall vs Calgary Red. We are 13-2-1 now with 39 pts. 65 GF and 36 GA One D got a serious injury at practice and our captain got tackled on a breakaway and may miss the Saturday game.Saturday we played for first overall in both our division and the 15 team league. Got outchanced in the first but came out 1-1. Second was evenly played and we got another but they scored on a scramble and two long shots. Third we outshot 12-3 and out chanced them but their goalie was really solid and we both scored one so a 3-5 result.
Now we don't play again until Jan. 3 and all other teams play next weekend. We have some injuries and been going hard since last week of August, so the break will be good.
Our terrific manager April applied and did all the work bidding to host the Provincials. We were chosen and are in for sure to the five team tournament. We know our team now and what we need to work on so everyone can contribute at the end of the season.
We have the highest ranked PP and PK and 4 of the top 10 scorers in the league as of today. We have a very young team and 4 of our 6 D are first year, 6 of our 12 forwards as well. One of our top pair D got injured in practice two weeks ago and may need season ending surgery. We have moved a first year forward back to D where she always played before this year.
All the teams get better in the second half. We are 13-3-1 now but have given up too many goals our last two games after averaging 2 GA. We average 4 GF a game and if we can keep that up and get back to defending like before we will be ok.Attachments

Good tempo practice to prepare for Saturday game vs. Red Deer. Davan still injured so Madie playing D. Tweaked PP to have weak side flanker at far post for bang in goal.
Played Red Deer who are a very good team. Instat shots were 20-21 for them. A real non event game. Score 0-4. We had We had 7 power plays, zero goals to their 3, one goal. We haven't played a game since early December and it showed.
Two games next weekend. Saturday Fire White and Sunday we go to Red Deer.

Walked through puck support options using the overload because options are similar to 5-5. Basic message is puck carrier must have two easy options all the time. We practiced give and go, east to west behind, scissor with D, weak side D sneak in, low support at far post. Forehand passes only. Then did Johnston game with one active checker then two rotating in for about 10". All players got a chance on offense and as checkers. Stressed the same themes in the pp game and drills.Attachments

Two games on the weekend. Played well against Fire White outshooting them 44-21 but lot 1-3 vs. a hot goalie.
Sunday travelled to Red Deer. A well played game with both teams getting about 33 shots. Loss 2-3 in 3-3 OT.
Have one game next Saturday vs. Raiders.
Reviewed defensive zone coverage at practice and focused on tight gaps and puck support. Thursday will focus on pp and team offense. Before the break we averaged 4 GF a game and have only score 3 in our three games after Christmas. Need to get back to passing the puck on our PP and hitting the net on our chances from the slot.Attachments

Hardest practice of the season so far. Lots of game situations progressing from 1-1 up to 5-5. Skill drills now will be used for warm up to improved speed and efficiency. We will so a lot more game situation.
Played Airdrie and lost 1-2. Before Christmas we averaged scoring 4 goals a game and our PP was near 50%. Both have gone cold. Outshot them 35-26 and that is about how the play went. Good first period, outplayed in second and it was 1-1 and really good third where they scored and we didn't. Another game tonight vs. Fire White.

Changed our breakout to the current style of wide W stretch, strong side wing get right up against their D and chip it out to eliminate the pinch.

Did a new drill with 5 shots and regroup passes they did pretty well for the first time. Carried puck on forehand side one rep in zig zag. This is to loosen the upper body. Two second game teaches on ice awareness and causes close puck support. We did the surfing drill 1-1 only as we do a lot of fly byes in games. Reviewed pp and pk.Well played game vs. Airdrie. 4-3 final. Not many penalties so we got to roll the four lines. We now have three PP units and two of them alternate games. Our stats have the shots 29-23. We chart where each shot came from and who shot, so it is very accurate. They have a much bigger team, as everyone does and are very fast. We played the Torpedo and 1-1-2 Sweep PK and used the PP Jim taught them this month. Four more games left to get comfortable with the team play adjustments.
Sunday played Fire Black who is first overall. Beat us first three games where we basically outplayed them. This game was different. We outscored our mistakes. They got behind and pressured two on the puck and pinched both sides. The ref allowed full contact which is good for them against our small team. We scored two on the pp, three 5-5 and one empty netter. They got one PP goal and 3 even strength. Players sacrificed themselves blocking shots and going into the corners first taking the hits. Great character win. Three games left. In Lethbridge for one next weekend then Okotoks and Fire White to finish the regular season. We will probably play Airdrie first round in the 2 of 3 playoffs.

Great high paced practice doing drills players know so they went into the next activity right away. Last thirty minute on specialty teams. No video as I have posted same drills before. One game in Lethbridge on Saturday then we finish regular season with two games next weekend.
The Torpedo helps some of our players as last weekend we got three goals from players who haven't scored at all or in a long time. We are still experimenting to find the combinations that work the best in each position.Lethbridge came out with guns blazing. Forechecked hard and pinched on both sides, hemmed us in. Outshot us 9-0 first ten minutes. We scored on our first shot to make it 1-1, then they scored 1-2, then us 2-2 to end the period. We came out in the second a lot better. Ref called us on everything and we killed 5 penalties and short 3-5 once. We got one PP and scored first ten seconds. Got us 5-4 two minutes left and got another penalty. They pulled goalie with one minute left and Ryan chipped it out and score EN goal for a 6-4 win. Nice feature is that 4 of our 6 goals were score by other players than our 5 returning AA players who have about 75% of our goals. We need others to score to do well in playoffs.
Used the Torpedo for the 4th game in a row. We have won all 4 games and have scored 6-4-4-6 for 20 goals in those games and many different players have scored. We now have two forechecks. 2-1-2 with pinch on wide rim. Torpedo 1-3-1 with pinch on both sides. Penalty kills – high press, low press, diamond, 1-1-2 Sweep. Tight triangle when two short. Power plays, 1-3-1, Swedish 1-3-1, Low spread, overload and slot set.

Played our last two games of the regular season and finished with a 20-8-2 record for second place in the southern division behind Fire Red. 113 GF, 85 GA, 68%, Power Play was about 35% and Penalty Kill over 90%.
Changed our forecheck last 6 games and went 5-1-0. Biggest benefit is many players have been scoring who did not score before the change. The Torpedo puts them in positions where they can succeed.Playoffs start this weekend with a 2 of 3 series vs. Airdrie. They finished 7th but lost about ten games by one goal. We won 4-3 our last meeting and are 3-1 against them this season. It will be a hard series. Win and play winner of Southern Alberta-Fire White series. We host the Provincials so the top two playoff teams and us play Provincials with the top two teams from the 8 team Northern division.

Game One Playoff vs. Airdrie
They are a bigger team than us and have to top U15 player in the Province. There were a lot of specialty teams. They scored first, then we got two and they got two to lead 2-3 with less than seven minutes left. We had lots of chances and breakaways but didn't score. We got a pp and scored on a great one timer by McKenna to tie it. They took another penalty with under two minutes left and McKenna and Kayla did a give and go and Kayla put it under the bar for a 4-3 win.
Really well played game by both teams and the goalies made lots of tough saves. We made 141 passes, the most this season. We don't really play a Torpedo which is a 2-2-1. We play and aggressive 1-3-1 which is common in Sweden and a few NHL teams use it but don't pinch on both sides, which I don't understand. Sweden used this in the Olympics and didn't take advantage of their great offensive talent.
Game two tonight in Airdrie.
No Flo video but two short clips of our tying and winning goals.

Sunday we played well in first, got outplayed in second and changed back to the 2-1-2 forecheck in third and came from behind one goal and score three on the power play. They got another and we ended up winning 5-4 and on to the second round and will play Red Deer.

Played two games vs. Red Deer. They beat us 3-5 and 2-3. We are already in the Provincials as host and would be anyway based on season result. We experimented with players in various positions and used both the 2-1-2 and 1-3-1 forechecks. I didn't coach much and focused on watching. More of our players contribute when we play the 1-3-1 and we can practice it so the lw and rd get more involved in the attack.
We got overpowered off the wall twice and in front of our net on four of their goals. Second game we should have won as we missed two wide open nets and didn't score on a breakaway.
We tried the low spread pp but it wasn't as effective as our star shaped 2-3 pp.
Provincials go March 19-22. Five games in four days, so everyone has to play.
Were supposed to practice Sunday but a blizzard made driving dangerous, so I cancelled it. We have T-Th-SAT-M-W practices to prepare.
Play Red Deer Thursday, Lloyminster 11:30 and Calgary Red 5:15 Friday, Peace Country Saturday and third-fourth play bronze game first and second play for gold second game Sunday.

Walked through our two forechecks, 2-1-2 pinch on wide rim and Aggressive 1-3-1 Pinch on both sides. It went ten minutes longer than planned so skipped Speed Scoring and finished with full ice 3-3 no dump ins. We had to stop the game to stress that everyone has to cover one player. Our passing in the small horseshoe and the 2" game was the best so far this season.
We adjusted the D pairs and the F lines and a few players met with us about where they are now.
We are very small on D and made sure the four centres have good size. Our top three scorers are on one line and the other three lines are balanced so they can compete and have the ability to score. Our D pairs are able to play both the forechecks without switching anyone. Teams match lines during the Provincial tournament and we prepared for that.
We have three more practices to prepare. Tournament starts with one game Thursday, two Friday, one Saturday. Top two play for gold and 3-4 Bronze on Sunday.
